If you are looking to change the flooring in your home, bamboo parquet is a good option to consider. Besides being beautiful and more environmentally friendly than others, it offers you some unique features. I'll show you in this article what you didn't know about bamboo parquet.

Bamboo parquet is a "green" material that you can consider for your next renovation. It is true that it is not a wood itself, however it is a durable, economical solution that you can implement in all types of rooms. Read on and I'll tell you more details that you will like...

Natural and sustainable product

Bamboo is one of the oldest plants on the planet. This plant has a very fast growth rate as it can grow up to 1 meter per day, isn't it fascinating? To give you an idea, while an oak forest regenerates in 50 years, or a pine forest takes about 10 years, a bamboo forest reaches maturity in 6 years. For this reason, it is a plant to consider in the coming years because of its regenerative speed and it is ideal to fight against the deforestation of the planet.

Get to know bamboo parquet

Among all the advantages that the installation of a bamboo parquet has, I emphasize that:

  • It is a natural and sustainable product: bamboo regenerates very easily and grows quickly. And it is a product that does not introduce artificial materials or materials from the petrochemical industry into the home.
  • It is a CO2 neutral product as the bamboo plant absorbs much more CO2 than in its production.
  • It has high strength, great flexibility and reduced thickness.
  • It is an excellent humidity and noise regulator due to its hygroscopic and sound-absorbing qualities.
  • Bamboo offers strength and reliability because it is much harder and more durable than oak. It is even more stable to expansion and contraction than traditional wood.
  • When it comes to installation, it can be either glued or floating.
  • It is suitable for use in wet areas such as the bathroom, kitchen or laundry room. It can be installed both indoors and outdoors.
  • You can find different shades.
  • It is quite competitively priced.

Technical characteristics of bamboo flooring

Among its many benefits we can say that bamboo flooring offers:

  1. It is a material that helps us to regulate the temperature in both winter and summer.
  2. It is a sound-absorbing material, which will help you achieve greater comfort in the rooms where you place it.
  3. High resistance to shocks due to its great hardness.
  4. It is stable to expansion as it does not shrink or expand due to temperature changes in the same way as wood or synthetics.
  5. ideal for allergy sufferers because it retains much less dust than a synthetic floor as it does not produce static electricity.
  6. It is anti-slip since it is a material with a great hygroscopic power, avoiding that film of water/humidity on its surface.
  7. Easy to maintain

Installation of bamboo parquet

An installation of bamboo parquet does not differ much from the traditional ways of installing a parquet floor or a synthetic floor (in our residential area, of course). The two most common installations are glued, similar to the traditional glued parquet. And the floating or plank installation, which is similar to the installation of synthetic flooring in click format.

glued bamboo parquet

This installation option is assembled from bamboo boards or strips that are glued to the floor. There is also the option of installing them on rasúreles, which could be called floating floorboards. Its installation gives a very natural appearance. Over time, if we notice any scratches, it can be sanded and given a new coat of finish.
If we have to put some but, it is a formula a little more laborious to install and, having more thickness, it is less resistant to moisture (this system is not recommended for wet areas).

Outdoor floating bamboo flooring

This type of flooring already goes through a more industrialized process in which it is given an appearance very similar to gluing, gaining in some other characteristics. Among them:

  • It gains in moisture resistance by being structured on a base.
  • It is easier to maintain.
  • It acquires greater resistance to shocks and slat twisting.
  • Its installation is much cleaner and quicker as it is served in slats with a click system like synthetic laminates.

As a disadvantage of this variant is that this format, over time, if it is marked or suffers wear, it must be replaced by another because it does not support sanding. Although it is a known aspect as in commercial laminate flooring.

Other bamboo applications

There are multiple uses for bamboo as it is a material with so many qualities. Due to its flexibility and resistance, it is used to manufacture furniture, interior and exterior cladding, kitchens, doors, ceilings... As well as to use it as a structural element in homes and buildings. It can be used to build the entire internal framework as it allows for postforming and unparalleled flexibility. It is used in most cases as part of the decoration of the space.

Undoubtedly, bamboo and especially bamboo parquet, is a material that we must begin to value in the decoration sector if we want to maintain our surroundings and our environment.
